Something amazing happened to me on Tuesday. I had been making du’a (supplication) for a very long time for something in particular. Then, out of the blue, along came this opportunity that was seemingly the answer to my prayer.
If we choose to seek the Countenance of Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala (exalted is He) above all else, invoke His Mercy and without a doubt He will shower His blessings upon us infinitely and Aid us where we struggle. I thanked Allah for the blessing He had bestowed upon me one after the other… in so many ways.
“’If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor],’” [Quran, Surah Ibrahim, 14:7]
Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala tells us that if we are thankful, if we are in a state of hamd (praise of Allah) internally, then He will bless us and increase us in the favors that he has bestowed upon us. Of course this is in the literal sense, that He will grant us more and more of the things we want, but it is also includes something a little bit different: The more we are thankful for the blessings that Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala gives us, the more He will make us aware of the blessings that He has placed in our lives. Every day we carry on surrounded by a multitude of blessings that we don’t even realize we have, or that we ignore because we have just gotten so used to them. But when we take a moment to recognize the blessings that we are given and actually thank Allah for them, He increases us in the awareness of those blessings, filling our lives with a joy that was possible all along, but we had been pushing away.
The Prophet (pbuh) said, “How amazing is the affair of the believer. There is good for him in everything and that is for no one but the believer. If good times come his way, he expresses gratitude to All?h and that is good for him, and if hardship comes his way, he endures it patiently and that is better for him.” [Muslim]
Take a moment to realize the good that Allah has placed in your life, and then thank Him, and then watch as He increases you.
