Picture Perfect : Be Not of Polytheists, Criminals and Disbelievers

Allah says in the Quran, Surah Al Muddaththir, 74:40-46 :- "(They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, And (ask) of the Sinners (Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, disbelievers)): "What led you into Hell Fire?" They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment," Read more ...

How the Quran Justifies Itself

In a previous posting about Islam’s rational monotheism (which may be read here), we saw how the Qur’an espouses a universal rationalist discourse to substantiate some of its main theological doctrines. As for how the Qur’an vindicates itself, and rationalises its claim of truly being the Word of God, it deploys the following line of argument: Firstly, it states that the Prophet Muhammad, upon whom be peace, was an unlettered Prophet [7:157]; that is, he was unable to read or write, and most certainly uneducated in the modern sense of the word: And you did not used to recite any book before this, and nor did you write it with your right hand. Islam’s Rational Monotheism

Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad explains: ‘In the Western milieu, converts to Islam claim that they are attracted to what they regard as its clear, rationally-accessible teachings, unobscured by elaborate mysteries. It is not only insiders who wish to take this view. Non-Muslim academic accounts... now frequently draw attention to the central role of reason in Islamic theology.’ 1 He quotes Leaman in his The Qur’an: An Encyclopedia, saying: ‘The Qur’an does indeed display an unusual commitment to argument and logic in its self-explanation.’ 2 Earlier in the same volume, Leaman says that whereas Judaism is strongly linked with ethnicity, and Christianity Read more ...

The Conquest of Space

- By Dr. Maurice Bucaille From this point of view, three verses of the Qur'an should command our full attention. One expresses, without any trace of ambiguity, what man should and will achieve in this field. In the other two, God refers for the sake of the unbelievers in Makkah to the surprise they would have if they were able to raise themselves up to the Heavens; He alludes to a hypothesis which will not be realized for the latter. 1) The first of these verses is surah 55, verse 33: "O assembly of Jinns and Men, if you can penetrate regions of the heavens and the earth, then penetrate them! You will not penetrate them save with a Power." The translation Read more ...

Faithful Friends

Source : SuhaibWebb | By Sabeen Mansoori A cursory reading of any translation of the Quran leaves one wondering why Allah (swt) repeats the stories of the Prophets so many times. It is related that Prophet Musa `alayhi sallatu wa sallam(may Allah send His peace and blessings on him) throws down his staff which swallows up the snakes of the magicians, and a few chapters later the same episode is related again. Similarly, we read about Shaytan’s flagrant disobedience several times in the Quran. This dry textual reading of the Quran is an injustice to this miraculous book. It must be approached not as a two dimensional script, but as a 3D world which embraces Read more ...

Some Signs to Ponder over

How can one observe the inexhaustible creativity of nature, its purposefulness, its preservation of the morally useful and destruction of the socially injurious, and yet fail to draw the conclusion that behind nature there is a Creator and Master. A Creator whose ceaseless creative activity, the processes of nature - is but an outward manifestation! The stars scattered through infinite space, the vast panorama of nature with its charm and beauty, the regular waxing and waning of the moon, the astonishing harmony of the seasons and the days and nights, the incessant supply of water, the delicate flowers and crystals beneath our feet - all point towards one Read more ...

Listen to this Quran…

“A Quran falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.” - Anonymous Everyone has certain ayaat that really shake them and bring everything into perspective. For me, it’s ayah 30 of Surah al Furqan. Gets me every single time. Then the Messenger will say: “O my Lord! Truly my people took this Quran for just foolish nonsense.” Tafsir ibn Kathir: “And those who disbelieve say: “Listen not to this Quran, and make noise in the midst of it.” (Quran, 41:26). When the Prophet (salallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) would recite Quran to them, they would talk nonsense or speak about something else, so that they would not hear it. Read more ...

Why are there so many Earthquakes?

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family, companions, and those who follow his guidance. Allah is the All-Wise, All-Knowing in all that He wills and decrees, and He is the All-Wise, All-Knowing in all that He legislates and commands. He creates and decrees whatever signs He wills, to frighten His slaves and remind them of their obligations and duties towards Him, and to warn them against associating anything in worship with Him, going against His commands and doing that which He has forbidden. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And We sent not the signs except to warn” [Surah Read more ...

“We send down (stage by stage) in the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe: to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss.” [Surah Al Isra' 17:82]

Picture Perfect : The Complete Manual for Life

We humans are blessed with a complete manual for our lives, that is – The Holy Quran. We can’t imagine having a better guidance that can help us to achieve a balanced life. However, there comes a time when we find it difficult to comprehend or to grasp the exact meaning of the verses in the Holy book. In order to understand it further one should refer to other sources of information such as books of Tafseer, Ahadiths, Fiqah, Qasas Al Anbia (stories of the prophets), etc which are written by Islamic scholars who work really hard in conveying the message of Allah. As a Muslim, it is our duty to not only read the Holy Quran but also to understand Read more ...
