Hajj notes (Printable PDF)

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy First and foremost I thank The Almighty Allah for having granted me the beneficial knowledge, health, wealth and time and all other uncounted Mercy and Blessings, without which we can achieve nothing. Allah (Subhanahu Ta’ala) says in the Quran: “Verily, the first House (of worship) appointed for mankind was that at Bakkah (Makkah), full of blessing, and a guidance for Al-‘Alamin (the mankind and jinns). In it are manifest signs (for example), the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim (Abraham); whosoever enters it, he attains security. And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka’bah) Read more ...

Dua’ : O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge..

"O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, a humble heart, certainty based on truth, and a tongue that moves in constant remembrance of You! O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness for every sin that You prohibited to me but I opposed You by committing; and every sin that You forewarned me of but I remained firm in committing; and every sin that You deemed abominable but my lower self made attractive to me. O Allah, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house as a believer and the believing men and the believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction. O Allah! grant us wisdom and join us with the righteous. “O Allah! Read more ...

The Lofty position of Mothers

The position of my mother remained unknown to me, until I contemplate what my Lord revealed through His prophet – That I worship none but Him and be kind to my parents and say not a word of contempt in the least bit (uff) and obey in all their orders unless it’s something which Allah has forbidden. And address them in honor and abstain from what they forbid and provide them, serve them and raise not voice in front of them nor fix glance upon them or call them by their names. And be patient with them and out of kindness lower to them the wings of humility and say – My Lord! Bestow on them your mercy as they cherished me in childhood. One Read more ...

Muslims view Narendra Modi with Hate not Fear

Recently an acquaintance of mine echoed the following words to me: “Even if Narendra Modi was involved in the 2002 Gujarat riots, I don’t care. His economic work wins out. I will vote for him.” Since then, I have not been able to shake a deep-seated disturbance at his disregard for essential humanity. This disregard, I fear, is shared by many in India. Before I lose your attention, this is not another piece debating Modi’s guilt. In fact, the argument about Modi’s guilt is endless. I have my view, you have yours, and facts are facts—they don't change even after a questionable judgment from the court that gave Modi a clean chit. But that’s Read more ...

When will come the Help of Allah?

Trials. At times they are overwhelming. As soon as we get through one, another one seems to simply be waiting for us. Time and time again they pull us backward, and sometimes they slam us flat on our faces not even allowing time for our hands to flail as we fall. They seem never ending, and sometimes it’s just hard to even comprehend why we are going through such things. At the end of the day, we are left in a daze, asking the only question that seems fit: ‘When will this all be over?’ And then we sit, waiting for the answer, hoping that it will come soon. In the Book of Guidance, which is unlike any other book, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala (exalted Read more ...

On “Authoritative Ignorance”: Blind Following and Blind Fitnah – Umm Zakiyyah

THE evening dinner started as usual with casual, lighthearted banter among us sisters who were present. In one comical exchange, a sister shared with us how terribly dry her feet were, so much so that they cracked often. “Sometimes I’m praying,” she said between chuckles, “and I have to keep leaving Salaat to make wudhoo because of my feet!” I creased my forehead. “But why would you make wudhoo because of your feet?” “Because sometimes the cracks bleed.” Oh… “Um…” I said. “You don’t have to make wudhoo because of that. ‘Umar Ibn Khattab kept praying even after he was stabbed, and he was bleeding a lot.” “Well, Read more ...

Purify your intention for the sake of Allah

I contemplated the way some people, some of whom I have lived with for years, deal with others,. I do not ever recall them laughing, or even smiling at a joke out of courtesy, or reacting positively to the person speaking to them. I used to think that perhaps this was how they were nurtured and that they were unable to alter their nature. I was therefore stunned one day to see some of them with a group of rich and powerful people, laughing and being courteous. I then realised that they only did this for their own personal interests and are thereby losing out on great rewards from Allah. A believer worships Allah by being well-mannered and dealing pleasantly Read more ...

My little Princesses, you bring to me a heart of Joy

My two little princesses would be back home, insha’Allah around tomorrow. Clearly, you both bring to me a heart of joy and provide great memories and a powerful sense of fatherhood. I cannot wait to be “tied around their little arms”,… entwined I’ve always been. I am again going to enjoy going on outings with them, show them stuffs like pictures and toys, eating meals together, or read stories to them. Basically sharing various activities that we would enjoy together. Their laughing and smiling and reacting with me, and seeing them as such is an amazing feeling, even if one has to act silly for it, or tease them lovingly... oh my darlings!! I Read more ...

Thank Allah, and watch as He increases you

Something amazing happened to me on Tuesday. I had been making du'a (supplication) for a very long time for something in particular. Then, out of the blue, along came this opportunity that was seemingly the answer to my prayer. If we choose to seek the Countenance of Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala (exalted is He) above all else, invoke His Mercy and without a doubt He will shower His blessings upon us infinitely and Aid us where we struggle. I thanked Allah for the blessing He had bestowed upon me one after the other... in so many ways. “’If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor],’” [Quran, Surah Ibrahim, 14:7] Allah subhanahu Read more ...
