Etiquette of Raising and Educating the Muslim Children

On the Etiquette of Raising and Educating the Muslim Children, Allaah, the glorified and exalted said,

“O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allaah, but do that which they are commanded.” [Surah at-Tahrim, 66:6]

Below are some important points from the Quran and authentic sunnah on the topic of raising children:

  1. To teach the child, that the greatest blessing that Allaah has given us is Islam.
  2. Teach them – Who is the Creator?
  3. Teach them – Who do we worship?
  4. To teach the child, “Where is Allaah?
  5. To teach the child, Tawheed.
  6. Who will go to Paradise?
  7. Who will go to the Hellfire?
  8. Who is the Messenger?
  9. Who are the Companions?
  10. Who are the Salaf al-salih?
  11. To whom do we owe our thanks to?
  12. Teaching the child, the status of Parents in the sight of Allaah.
  13. Instructing the child to eat with his/her right-hand.
  14. Teaching the child not to blow on hot food/drink.
  15. Instruct the child by age 1-1½ to mention “bismillah” upon eating/drinking.
  16. To teach the child the pillars of Islam and iman.
  17. To teach the child the rulings of wudhu.
  18. Eat with your right hand and eat which is near to you.
  19. Get them accustomed with good and command them with salat (prayers) at 7 yrs of age.
  20. Arrange their beds separately when they are 10 yrs of age.
  21. Accustom them with fasting.
  22. Teach your child the correct ‘aqeedah.
  23. Advice your child with that with Luqman advised his child.
  24. To seek permission to enter a house or a room.
  25. Teach them the matters which are forbidden that they main abstain from them.
  26. Explaining the meaning of an ayah or hadith that is being related of them.
  27. Connect their hearts to Allaah.
  28. Give concern to the memorization of the Quran.
  29. Do not leave your children to mix with foolish children.
  30. Do not leave your child outside in the evening.
  31. Do not leave the child to play alone (always) and do not make learning boring.
  32. Make your child sit with those who are righteous.

Know Allaah and you will love him, love Him and you will worship him, obey him and you will obey his Messenger, follow his Messenger and you will follow his Companions. Do this and Paradise awaits in-sha’Allaah.
