Allah says in Surah Ali ‘Imran,
“Every soul shall have a taste of death: And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.” (Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:185)
Allah describes the successful person as the one who is saved from the Fire and enters Jannah; our true success lies in the hereafter.
This dua asks Allah azza wa jal for the best in our aakhirah and to save us from the worst end.
In a Sahih (authentic) hadith in Sunan Ibn Maajah, A’ishah (RA) narrated that the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam taught her this dua:
[Allahumma Inni As’alukal-Jannah Wa Ma Qarraba Ilayha Min Qawlin Aw camalin Wa Acudhu Bika Min-Nari Wa Ma Qarraba Ilayha Min Qawlin Aw camalin Wa As’aluka An Tajcala Kulla Qada’in Qadaytahu Li Khayran]
O Allah, I ask You of Paradise and every deed or speech that will be a means of drawing near to it; and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from every deed or speech that will be a means of drawing near to it; and I ask You that You make whatever You have decreed for me a means of good.
