Khutbah al-Haajah: The Sermon of Necessity

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Bestower of Mercy. Khutbah al-Haajah is the khutbah which you hear the Imaam begin with on Jumu'ah and this is the Khutbah which you hear almost all the scholars begin their books and speeches with. This sermon was the method employed by the Messenger of Allah (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) to inaugurate his exhortations, lectures and speeches. He (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) would teach it to his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) in the sum total of their affairs. This is indicative of it’s significance and lofty station. Regarding this khutbah Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) said in his Read more ...

The stance of Ahlus-Sunnah with regards to Yazeed, the son of Mu’aawiyah

The belief of Ahlus Sunnah and the Scholars of the Ummah is that Yazeed, the son of Mu'aawiyah, should not be insulted nor loved. This is due to the following. Saalih the son of Ahmad bin Hanbal (may Allah have mercy upon him) said, "I said to my father: "Some people say that they love Yazeed." He replied, "O my son, is it possible for a person who believes in Allah and the Last Day to ever love Yazeed?" So I said, "O my father, why do you not then curse him?" He replied "O my son, when did you ever see your father curse any person?"" It has also been narrated from him (Imaam Ahmad) that it was said to him, "do you write the hadeeth narrated by Yazeed Read more ...

On “Authoritative Ignorance”: Blind Following and Blind Fitnah – Umm Zakiyyah

THE evening dinner started as usual with casual, lighthearted banter among us sisters who were present. In one comical exchange, a sister shared with us how terribly dry her feet were, so much so that they cracked often. “Sometimes I’m praying,” she said between chuckles, “and I have to keep leaving Salaat to make wudhoo because of my feet!” I creased my forehead. “But why would you make wudhoo because of your feet?” “Because sometimes the cracks bleed.” Oh… “Um…” I said. “You don’t have to make wudhoo because of that. ‘Umar Ibn Khattab kept praying even after he was stabbed, and he was bleeding a lot.” “Well, Read more ...

Source: Muslimmatters.org | By: Shaykh Waleed Basyouni “Son, on the Day of Judgment, Allah will not ask you about Fir'awn, whether HE was believer or not, so do not worry about that individual.” I had just asked him about a contemporary figure whose opinions we young, aspiring students of knowledge had been debating over, and I was eager to prove his views wrong. “You will not be asked about him, rather you will be asked about yourself.”   These were the words of Sh. Abdul-Razzaq  in response to my request to have him look over one of the first books I had written. It was a refutation of Sh. Abdul-Fattah Abu Quda . I was very excited and Read more ...
