“A Quran falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.” – Anonymous
Everyone has certain ayaat that really shake them and bring everything into perspective. For me, it’s ayah 30 of Surah al Furqan. Gets me every single time.
Then the Messenger will say: “O my Lord! Truly my people took this Quran for just foolish nonsense.”
Tafsir ibn Kathir:
“And those who disbelieve say: “Listen not to this Quran, and make noise in the midst of it.” (Quran, 41:26).
When the Prophet (salallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) would recite Quran to them, they would talk nonsense or speak about something else, so that they would not hear it. This is a form of forsaking it and rejecting it, and not believing in it is the same as forsaking it, and not pondering its meanings and trying to understand it is the same as forsaking it, and not acting upon it and following its commandments and heeding its prohibitions is the same as forsaking it, and turning away from it in favor of poetry or other words or songs or idle talk or some other way is the same as forsaking it.
We ask Allah, the Most Generous, the Bestower of bounty, the One Who is able to do what He wills, to keep us safe from doing that which earns His wrath and to use us to do that which will earn His pleasure of preserving and understanding His Book, following its commandments night and day in the manner which He loves and which pleases Him, for He is Generous and Kind. Ameen!
Think about it. How much effort and time do you and I invest in learning and living the Quran? Take a moment to physically examine your personal Quran. What does it look like? Barely used? Well-thumbed? Falling apart?
“O Allah, beautify us with the beauty of the Quran. O Allah, enter us into Paradise by the intercession of the Quran. O Allah, ennoble us by the nobility of the Quran. O Allah, dress us with the honorable mantle (khil`ah) of the Quran. O Allah, dress us with the honorable mantle of the Quran. O Allah, honor us with the honor of the Quran.”
O Allah, make the Quran the blossoming spring of our hearts, and the light of our chests, and the dispeller of our sadness and grief. O Allah, make the Quran a proof for us, and not a proof against us.
O Allah, bestow on us, by every letter of the Quran a sweetness, and by every word magnanimity and generosity, and by every verse happiness and joy, and by every chapter peace and security, and by every section reward. O Allah, bless us with contentment, and make beloved to us prayer in congregation, and help us to remember death, Our Lord, in every moment.
