NOT AGAIN!!!
A Facebook user, Molly Norris, set up a page called “Draw Mohammed Day,” allegedly inviting people to send in their caricatures of the Muslim prophet – an idea which she now says, satirical and not to be taken seriously.
It was just a “little cartoon,” she said, posted on her website, her cartoon blog and Facebook page, and sent to some bloggers. Norris, 49, originally drew her cartoon to express support for the creators of the TV show “South Park,” which had depicted the Islamic Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit during an episode aired last month.
Thousands of members of the social networking site have launched an online campaign demanding a boycott of Facebook over the offending page. The depiction of any prophet is strictly prohibited in Islam as blasphemous.
For Muslims, depictions of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is considered to be inappropriate, even prohibited. The Quran does not specifically prohibit depictions of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), but does warn against idolatry. It is a blasphemous act to depict or create image of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) in any form.Pakistan blocked a section of Facebook Inc., the world’s largest social-networking service, citing plans for a “blasphemous” competition inviting users to draw caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.
The Lahore High Court imposed the ban until May 31 and asked Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry to protest to the international community over the competition, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan said on its website yesterday.
“Pakistan needs an effective plan to prevent anti-Islam elements “hurting the sentiments of Muslims,”” APP cited religious affairs minister Saeed Kazmi, as saying in Islamabad. Protesters gathered in Karachi holding banners and shouting slogans against Facebook yesterday and people circulated text messages asking users of the site in Pakistan to support the ban.
Cartoons depicting Muhammad in a Danish newspaper in 2005, provoked protests by Muslim communities around the world including Pakistan, home to the world’s second-largest Muslim population after Indonesia. Depictions of the Prophet are considered blasphemous by Muslims.
The cartoons of the Prophet printed in Danish newspapers in 2005 included one of him with a bomb in his turban and accompanied an article on freedom of speech and self-censorship in the media.
Yet again, the Muslims are being attacked and disrespect being shown to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). There’s a real line being crossed here yet again in the name of free speech. Freedom of speech is a priviledge that requires to be used responsibly.
This idea to draw cartoons, is just another attempt to hurt the muslim sentiments and attack the religion, and also to create disturbances and more differences among all muslims and non-muslims.
What these ignorant are trying to do… it is just like spitting on the sky, your spit? will never do anything bad to the sky but the spit will fall onto your own face. Just think what you are trying to do. Do you belong among those who are capable of thinking and understanding. All the religions in this world have? to be respected and should be given honor. It is not blasphemy of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), but it is blasphemy and insult of all the religions.
If anyone does such an act of stupidity he/she makes a mockery of himself. Prophets are way above our approach and if anyone does anything to disgrace them it is not they who are disgraced but it is that person who is disgraced. This is really shameful.
May Allah help the muslims in this matter. Ameen!
By this act of drawing Muhammad, people are showing Muslims their freedoms will not be limited by intimidation or violence. Freedom of speech guarantees that someone will be offended. Many of the things Muslims say offend me, so do I protest in front of their mosques, seek to injure their imams, or threaten them all with death? NO.
Freedom of speech may be a privelage in some countries, but in others it is a right. When you’re in those countries where it is a right, you’re obligated to respect that right.
Finally, while this may be news to you, not everyone considers Muhammad a prophet.
ISLAM is a great religion – it represents the final word of God – it is a matter of individual conscience whether you accept or reject it at an existential level – one man could not be defeated over a period of 23 years – despite attempts at assasination – there are now 1.8 billion muslims and fourteen centuries of history- God will defend his own faith. If a person could not arrive at belief through the miracle of his own intellect, after obviously having studied Islam thoroughly enough to debate with a Muslim, nothing could turn his heart. Truth of Allah being the only God, authenticity of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Islam comes in one package.
“Allah hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a veil; great is the penalty they (incur).” (Quran 2:7)
You are demanding to get the knowledge and authenticity of the religion and its Prophets without studying the book of the Creator. To comment as above.. you first need to know Islam.. and to know Islam,, you need to have sincerity and then learn about it.
And did you mention violence… cummon bro have a life… all the world attacking the Muslims.. and you call us violent!!! George Bush killed millions in Iraq in the name of “Weapons of Mass destruction”… and none were ever found.. and you call us violent and terrorist???? George Bush killed almost lakhs of muslims in Afghanistan to catch Osama bin Laden… for 1.. he killed lakhs,,, and when asked for proofs against Osama,,. none could be provided… and you link us with terrorism…. British invaded India (includes area of pakistan and bangladesh) and made the people here there slaves and ruled with force… and you call us violent!!! British and then Russia and then US attacked Afghanistan… for no valid reason whatsoever.. and you call at us!!! You need to learn outside of your circle of learning brother. Hitler killed millions and millions of people (including some 8 millions jews). Israel, a community which was allowed shelter in palestine by palestinians … they now occupy almost all of palestine.. killing i dont know how many muslims… Generations and Generations have been killed and destroyed by non-muslims and you call at us!! its wierd!!
Everything, every right comes with a responsibility.. if one cannot be responsible and sensible.. that right is not for that person. Its not use… its called misuse in such circumstances. These people, they don’t even respect their own Gods and have a very lowly perception about their own God/Gods. This attitude of their is reflected in their writings, media, theatre and TV shows, and their movies. So how can we expect them to be kind to our Prophet (PBUH).
The cartoon controversy… its something serious. We did not start any such thing.. one fine morning someone comes up with this kind of idea and the whole anti-islamic world as always supports it…. and this things been happening too frequently….. It in a way or the other creates disturbances and more differences among all muslims and non-muslims… it does. But to keep peace and humanity alive….. these sort of FINGERING NEEDS TO STOP NOW.
Mr. Robert, what is your belief system?
You talk about people undertaking responsibility (by drawing Muhammad – peace be upon him, and you approve of either by its acceptance of by doing it yourself)
You talk about freedom (where freedom of speech is showcased, otherwise all else understood)
You talk about offending (outcome of ur freedom of speech which reflects as a natural inclination in you like many)
You talk about privilage (one which you want to exercise it)
You talk about rights (which you are in strong favour of like all else)
You talk about obligation (Posed as if you respect fulfilling it)
You talk about respect (which should be given to everyone due of, and anyone who refrain giving it is unjust)
Irrespective whether you fall into the first category who are skeptic, rejects or challenges the existence of Creator or the second category who profess no religion, are agnostic, uninterested free thinkers. You were definately not born in atheism.
It was your choice. And choices are either due of personal benefit, likeness, superiority, judgement, preference, righteousness etc. What was your pick ?
That it gives you……
A state of conciousness of undertaking responsibility to sketch an individual and not illustrate what other nations and religion do and approve of – War, Sanctions, Occupation, Incitation etc.
Freedom to exercise whatever irrespective they are right or wrong – Incest, Rape, Gay marriages, Wife Swapping, Prostituition etc.
Opportunity to offend, because you think others are wrong and you are right and that’s the apt approach.
Privilege to follow your whims and desires and not control your wildness – your animal instinct.
Due rights which you are entitled, foregoing you own lack in giving rights to your creator.
Ah yes.. how can I forget that you’re an athiest not believing in a Creator…
By the way.. how were you born then?… a mere co-incidence of copulation? and your bearer (parents) likewise and their parents likewise. As if the first one existed out of nothing… It pre-existed. Or it evolved from a single cellular to multi-cellular over a period of time. And what have you willed once you die ? Not to buried like a Muslim, or Box-Buried like a Christian, or burnt like a Hindu, or left to be eaten on a mountain top by vultures like Parsees.
I must admit the excellence in your logical approach which in analogy is similar to the belief that a modern day advanced
electronic gadget like Moblie phone doesn’t have a creator… it was just a mere co-incidence with some chemical changes over a longspan which happened in the desert of Arabia where Sand (silica) and Oil (plastic – a by product) are abundant and the heat molded them into fancy model.
By the way brother, it is not a news to us that every Hare Krishna (a hindu) and Paul Robert(a Christian) and Gobind Singh (a Sikh) and Pestongi Perosha (A Parsee) does not believe in Mohammad (pbuh). We already know that. Though we admit that
Athiest1,
Athiest2,
Athiest2.5,
Athiest v2.3 beta,
Athiest 2.x RTM also fall into the same category and we are ignorant of it because of poor naming convention or lack of identity.
Just to advice you in good faith….
Glory be to Allah: The soul has the pride of Satan, the envy of Cain, the insolence and impiety of ‘Ad, the tyranny of Thamud, the boldness of Nimrod, the tendency to attack violently like Fir’awn (Pharaoh), the injustice of Qarun, the meanness of Haman, the fancy of Bil’arr”, the trickery of the people of the Sabbathbreakers, the mutiny of Al-Walld, and the ignorance of Abu Jahl. The soul of man also took some of the characteristics of the animals such as the greediness of the crow, the gluttony of a dog, the folly of a peacock, the lowness of a scarab, the disobedience of a lizard, the spite of a camel, the impulsive jumping of a cheetah, the power of a lion, the debauchery of a mouse, the malice of a snake, the frivolity of a monkey, the desire to collect and store like an ant, the cunning of a fox, the lightness of a butterfly, and the laziness of a hyena. But through taming and fighting this soul, all these traits will be removed, but whoever submits to these follies, will become their servant and his good self will not be bought by Allah…. For he accepts not which is not pure in its entirety.
@navedz
When did Muslims assume for themselves the right to arbitrate what is responsible? Who granted them that right?
You do ask one good question: How can you expect anyone to be kind to your prophet? The answer: You can’t. Threats or violence forcing people to act kind in a manner Muslims determine will backfire, as they did on Draw Muhammed Day.
@Illusion
Sorry, I didn’t quite get your point. Perhaps you can sum it up for me?
Robert…
firstly I would like to appologize for being rude and sarcastic in my comment. I was just swayed by my emotions. I’m sorry for that.
What I wanted to point out above in my comment is…
from an athiest’s point of view keeping no religion in picture and depending entirely on the self assumption, understanding evaluation and classification of what is right and what is wrong you outlined a few things which you consider.
Now keeping you own standards… I wanted to point out why can you see just one side of the coin and not the flip side?
Tell me you don’t find the difference between killing one man and one nation (Afghanistan)
Guest kicking you out of your own house after killing your family (Palestine)
And are you trying to equate Islam with killing, maiming, usurping, etc ? Brother.. the thumbrule is whoever does that is not at all a Moslems, whether he’s Sultan or Akbar, Ahmad or Mohammad. HE IS NOT A MOSLEM IN THE LEAST BIT. Assuming you practised Christianity earlier… Anyone who denies Crucifixion and Resurrection and Trinity and Jesus as God or son of God is not a Christian, even if he claims to be one. Likewise the above holds true in Islam.
Brother… we have ruled the world, and not just for a couple of years, but for decades and centuries.
If our teachings were to kill every non-muslim or to revert them to Islam, we would have turned all Indians into Moslems. We have ruled them for around a thousand years. Yes…. 1000 years. And that’s more than 30 generations.
Indonesia… what makes it the largest Moslem nation? Can you find which war took place in the last 50 years to make it the largest Moslem nation ?
We won all of the crusade wars, but did not force them to accept Islam. And mind it, we never waged those wars.
One man… just one single man has revolutionized the world. Can’t you question yourself how can it be possible if it was not divine ? If the teachings were so pervert, how is it that a bunch of supporters could not be crushed in its early days ?
What makes Islam the fastest growing religion in the world ?
Does your athiest intelligence not counter question you on those part ?
I also meant that your denial of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) comes later and the denial of your Creator comes before. For a lot of people do not believe in him, but they do believe in God atleast, irrespective what understanding they have about their God.
Also to the comment to made to navedz – “When did Muslims assume for themselves the right to arbitrate what is responsible? Who granted them that right?”
Do you want to say you are biased? No body granted Muslims the rights!!! But do you have a justification to who gave others the right to arbitrate?
And yes we don’t expect kindness to our Prophet (saw), but where on earth did you learn that he taught violence ?
What I can infer is that either you hold a prejudice or you have studied the religion of Islam very partially without countering the counters raised.
We pray for your hidayah. Ameen.
