Ten Points for the First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah 1. The first ten days are actually nine days with the addition of the day of Eid. It is called the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, but only nine of it is for fasting as the tenth day is the beginning of Eid. It is impermissible to fast on the day of Eid, this is a consensus amongst the people of knowledge. 2. Obligation of Zakatul-Fitr (Sadaqatul-Fitr) Ibn Umar (radhiAllaahu anhu) narrated: "Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu alayhi wassallam) made obligatory the payment of one Sa' (approx 2.6 Kg) of dates or one Sa' of barley as zakatul-fitr on every Muslim slave or free, male or female, young or old; and he ordered that it be paid before the people went out to offer 'Eid prayer." [Bukhari, 1503] Ibn Umar (radhiAllaahu anhu) said: "The Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wassallam) made obligatory on every male or female, free man or slave, the payment of one Sa' of dates or barley as sadaqatul-fitr."
