“In the company of the Poor…”

On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“The gates of Paradise will be opened on Mondays and on Thursdays, and every servant [of Allah] who associates nothing with Allah will be forgiven, except for the man who has a grudge against his brother. [About them] it will be said: ‘Delay these two until they are reconciled; delay these two until they are reconciled.'”

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“O Allah, grant me life as a poor man, cause me to die as a poor man and resurrect me in the company of the poor…”

Aishah (RA) asked him why he said that, and he replied:

“Because (the poor) will enter Paradise (before) the rich. Do not turn away a poor man… even if all you can give is half a date. If you love the poor and bring them near you… Allah will bring you near Him on the Day of Ressurrection.”
